FC Porto trophy presentation delayed until final matchday even if title is sealed on Saturday | OneFootball

FC Porto could clinch the national title on Saturday by beating Alverca. The trophy will only be handed to captain Diogo Costa after the final matchday, when Santa Clara visit on the weekend of 17 May.

O Jogo understands that, despite regulations stating the trophy is awarded at the champions’ home stadium regardless of when the title is secured, the club and the league have agreed to delay the ceremony.

Porto do not want to pre-empt celebrations, preferring to stage them only once the 31st national championship is confirmed.

There will be no visit to the Aliados on Saturday. That is planned for after the Santa Clara game.

If there is cause to celebrate after facing Alverca, thousands of supporters are expected to gather around the Dragão, as on previous occasions.
