Fenerbahce are “closing in” on a deal for Jadon Sancho after offering £15 million to Manchester United for the wantaway star, according to a report.
Sancho will return to Old Trafford this month after Chelsea triggered a £5 million cancellation penalty to renege on their obligation to buy the 25-year-old winger following his loan at Stamford Bridge.
As a result, United are desperate to agree a permanent exit with Ruben Amorim adamant the player will not be included in the club’s pre-season tour this summer.
This is shared by Sancho who is actively seeking our alternative suitors after he failed to agree personal terms with Chelsea, despite both parties being open to the transfer.
The winger is refusing to compromise on his wage packet at Old Trafford, however, believed to be worth around £250,000 a week, which will limit his options.
There are clubs in the Saudi Pro League who have expressed interest but Sancho’s preference appears to be to remain in Europe with a move to Serie A or a return to Borussia Dortmund both being explored.
But there is also significant interest from Turkey, with Super Lig powerhouses Galatasaray and Fenerbahce both making advances to sign the Englishman.
Fenerbahce, managed by former United boss Jose Mourinho, are leading the race over their bitter rivals after the Portuguese coach personally approved the move.
Mourinho is believed to have “held a direct call” with Sancho in an effort to convince the winger to swap the Premier League for the Super Lig, according to Ben Jacobs (GIVEMESPORT).
As relayed by The Peoples Person here, the Yellow Canaries have reached an agreement on personal terms with Sancho over a salary worth €10 million a year and there is growing optimism over the deal.
And The Sun now contends Fenerbahce have tabled a £15 million bid to United and have “emerged as the strongest suitors” for the winger. Jacobs contends the Turkish club may be willing to offer in “excess” of this price with United holding out for a fanciful £25 million.
Sancho’s remaining book value at Old Trafford following his £73 million for Dortmund in 2021 is £14.6 million. This means Fenerbahce’s offer would incur a profit from the perspective of PSR, albeit a minor one.
But, more importantly, it would constitute a permanent end to the 25-year-old’s disastrous time in Manchester and remove his exorbitant salary from the wage bill at a time when every penny counts for the Red Devils.
