FERJ names 34-year-old Lucas Coelho Santos to referee Flamengo v Madureira | OneFootball

The Rio de Janeiro state federation, FERJ, announced the officiating team for Sunday at the Maracanã, naming 34-year-old Lucas Coelho Santos to referee the Carioca semi-final between Flamengo and Madureira.

Coelho Santos has never taken charge of a Brasileirão Serie A match. He has also not refereed in Serie B or Serie C, working at national level only in Serie D, plus the Brasileiro Under-20 and the Carioca.

In this state championship he has handled three fixtures, Portuguesa 0-2 Botafogo, Boavista 3-2 Portuguesa and Madureira 0-0 Vasco. In the latter he awarded Vasco a penalty, which Puma Rodríguez failed to convert.

The crew includes assistants Thiago Henrique Farinha and Thayse Marques Fonseca, with João Marcos Fernandes as fourth and Marcelo Araújo Ossimo as fifth. VAR duties fall to Paulo Renato Moreira Coelho, supported by Diogo Carvalho Silva and Rodrigo Carvalhaes de Miranda. The assessor is Jorge Fernando Rabello, with Cláudio José Soares as VAR observer and Marcelo Silva Nascimento as quality manager.

Kick-off is at 20:30 Brasília time on Sunday, 22. The semi-final is played over two legs, with the second leg on two March, also at the Maracanã. The winners will face Vasco or Fluminense in the Carioca final.
