Corinthians beat Atlético Mineiro 1-0 in the Brasileirão on Sunday, a result that prevented Fernando Diniz from going three matches without a win, which would have been his worst sequence since taking charge.
According to Meu Timao, Diniz was appointed on 6 April and has overseen 14 matches without suffering a three-game winless spell. The potential slump had followed a 3-1 defeat to Botafogo and a 1-1 draw with Peñarol of Uruguay.
In early May, Corinthians also went two without victory, losing 2-1 to Mirassol then drawing 1-1 with Independiente Santa Fe of Colombia. Before Diniz arrived, the club endured nine games without a win, which led to Dorival Júnior’s dismissal.
Under Diniz, Corinthians have eight wins, with draws and defeats combined totalling six. The standout has been the Libertadores campaign, with early qualification for the next phase and an unbeaten record of three wins and two draws.
The team return to continental action on Wednesday, hosting Platense of Argentina at 21:30 at Neo Química Arena in the final round of the first phase. Corinthians have already secured top spot, while Platense are chasing a place in the last 16.
