Corinthians drew 0-0 away to Vitória in the Brasileirão. Fernando Diniz said André Carrillo’s spell at right-back was a situational call. The result left the club in the relegation zone for the first time this season.
According to Meu Timao, suspensions for Matheuzinho and André Luiz saw starts for Pedro Milans and Carrillo. After half-time Carrillo moved to right-back when Milans made way for Kaio César, and Diniz noted the Peruvian had trained there.
He called Carrillo one of his most adaptable and trusted players. Diniz felt Corinthians’ best spell came with him at full-back and fresh legs on, highlighting Kaio César’s energy and midfield fatigue.
Milans returned from a right-ankle sprain that sidelined him for two matches, his previous outing the 0-0 at Chapecoense on 19 March. Diniz also used Matheus Pereira, Allan, Zakaria Labyad and Jesse Lingard.
Without André Luiz, Bidon often dropped to help build-up. Diniz said he is chiefly an 8 who can play as a 10 or wide, and has even operated as a 5, with 8 likely his main role.
Corinthians finished with 46% possession, seven shots without one on target, and 356 passes with 57 misplaced.
They have 12 points from 12 matches and sit 17th. Next is the Copa do Brasil on Tuesday at 21:30 away to Barra-SC at Ressacada, the first leg of the fifth phase. In the league they face Vasco on Sunday at 16:00 at Neo Química Arena, although the venue could change because of an STJD home-ground sanction.
