Fernando Gayoso, revered Boca Juniors goalkeeping coach, dies aged 55

Fernando Gayoso, a long-serving Primera División goalkeeping coach and Boca Juniors’ academy goalkeeping coordinator, has died aged 55 after recent years battling ELA.
According to SuperDepor.com, he was widely loved and respected at the club, and his son, Fran, announced the news with a heartfelt social media post.
Fran paid tribute to a legend, calling him his idol and example who never gave in, and said he is now with his mother while asking them to watch over him.
He also vowed their surname would endure in history for Fernando’s achievements, thanked him for all he gave to football and to his family, and promised to miss him forever.
Beyond Boca, Gayoso worked at Racing, Vélez, Tigre and Nacional de Montevideo. After his ELA diagnosis he stepped away from daily on-pitch duties, continued as goalkeeping coordinator, and his health had recently worsened.
Boca Juniors expressed deep sorrow at his passing, highlighting his commitment, professionalism and warmth, and offered support to his family, friends and loved ones.
He leaves a lasting legacy at the club, having mentored and supported generations of goalkeepers.
