Feyenoord head coach Pascal Bosschaart expects a different performance from AC Milan in the second leg of their Champions League play-off tie.
It has certainly been a whirlwind few days for Bosschaart, who this time eight days ago was not even the manager of Feyenoord. Brian Priske was sacked at the beginning of last week with Feyenoord sitting fifth in the league table, just two days before the first leg against Milan.
The Dutch side then confirmed a day later that Bosschaart would ‘temporarily take over’ from Priske’s duties as the first team head coach. His first game was the 1-0 win over the Rossoneri, which happened to be Feyenoord’s first home Champions League knockout win since 1974.
Bosschaart spoke at a press conference from San Siro on the eve of the game to give an update on the status of his squad and to preview what could be a huge night for the club, with MilanPress relaying his comments.
“We have Stengs back, which is very positive. He can play minutes again, we are happy to have a quality player back in the squad. He can play half an hour, so we could use him if needed.
“The fact that I can be here as a coach is unique. We will do everything to reach the next round. It will not be easy, but it is a great challenge. We will play away, I assume that Milan will do something different to last week. We are trying to see what our chances are. We have prepared well in the last day and a half.

“Hancko is a natural leader, even without the captaincy. He has played everywhere, which indicates the type of player he is. He does everything for the team. Even today we shared the tactics with some key players in advance. I think it should be like that.
“The fans? It’s the first time they can come to Italy. That’s how it should be. I hope our fans behave and support us. There will be 4,500 of them, it couldn’t be better.
“We always talk about tactics, principles of play, systems and so on. We are trying to play with a system that is good for Feyenoord and with which we can get a good result tomorrow. Whether it is 4-3-3, 5-3-2, 3-5-2 or 4-4-2, it doesn’t matter.
“Tomorrow we will stick to the game system that we know, but we have added some nuances. Timber’s injury? We are all with Quinten. It is a shock for everyone, but especially for him. We wish him good luck with his recovery.”
