FIFA has confirmed that Somali referee Omar Abdulkadir Artan, refused entry on arrival in the United States, will not take part at the 2026 World Cup, which runs from 11 June to 19 July.

The federation said he will neither train nor take charge of matches, adding that it does not intervene in host-nation immigration procedures, including visas.

His status will not be changed for now, and, as with previous FIFA tournaments, the host government has the final say on visas and admission.

The reasons for Artan’s refusal of entry have not yet been disclosed.

Somalia is among several countries whose citizens are subject to a United States travel ban under the administration of Donald Trump.
