Who is playing today? 👀

Germany were nothing short of ruthless in their opening game as they registered a scoreline that they have history with at the World Cup™ by thrashing Curaçao 7-1.

Kai Havertz netted twice and five other scorers got on the scoresheet (Felix Nmecha, Nico Schlotterbeck, Jamal Musiala, Nathaniel Brown and Deniz Undav) as Die Mannschaft chalked up the biggest win of the tournament so far.

Côte d'Ivoire's clash with Ecuador was a thrilling end-to-end affair that saw the woodwork rattled four times and looked set to end in an unjust scoreless draw, only for Manchester United's Amad Diallo to pop up at the death to win it.

Another win for either side will see them book their place in the last 32.

Take your pick from the German side who performed so brilliantly on matchday one, with Havertz in particular looking sharp and ready to impress across the Atlantic - carrying on from his Champions League final strike.

The African outfit were also impressive and Yan Diomande in particular sizzled throughout and showed why he is being sought after by so many clubs this summer.

He wasn't the only player who did his reputation no harm though and Wilfried Singo performed well at the back too, although he is set to be busy again with a star-studded Germany attack to keep quiet.

Must-watch video 🎥

You can't blame the Germany fans for soaking up every bit of their 7-1 win.

Fun facts 📊

  • The only previous meeting between these nations came in a 2009 friendly in Gelsenkirchen which ended in a 2-2 draw
  • Germany have won their last 10 games which is their longest such streak since a 12-match run from May 1979 until June 1980
  • Excluding extra-time and own goals, Diallo's 89:32 strike was the latest winner scored by a substitute since Francesco Totti's 94:26 penalty for Italy against Australia in 2006

Our prediction 🔮

  1. Germany 2-2 Côte d'Ivoire
