According to Sky Germany, Bayer Leverkusen have two names on their shortlist to potentially replace Kasper Hjulmand, with Filipe Luis newly added.
CEO Fernando Carro and sporting director Simon Rolfes are particularly keen on Luis and previously tried to bring him to the Rhineland club as a player. The 40-year-old former Atlético Madrid and Chelsea left-back is now coaching Flamengo and has led them to a Copa Libertadores triumph in 2025.
Michel, the Girona coach, is also being monitored. Oliver Glasner remains in the mix as no top side has approached him, though a return to the German top flight seems unlikely.
Kicker writes that indications suggest Saturday’s match against Hamburger SV will be Hjulmand’s last, although no final decision has been made. Rolfes said Keld Bordinggaard, Hjulmand’s former assistant and long-time technical advisor, will continue working for the club.
Rogier Meijer could depart, as he is highly regarded as Sparta Rotterdam’s future head coach. One thing is certain, the next coach should bring a possession-based approach as well as passion and energy, and the club wants a swift decision so squad planning can be finalised.
