Chelsea’s January has been so packed with games that transfers have been forgotten a little compared to usual.

But with the window 24 hours from closing, things are picking up.

Earlier today, the well connected Ben Jacobs said that defender Aaron Anselmino’s loan move to our sister club Strasbourg is “pretty much finalised.”

This concludes a confusing week for the Argentine, who was tearful as he was recalled from Borussia Dortmund, then apparently was reluctant to go to Strasbourg.

Truth of defender’s Dortmund recall very strange indeed

Ben Jacobs’ Tweet about Aaron Anselmino.

Jacobs adds some interesting context here too – he says that Chelsea are “disappointed” with Dortmund, who apparently tried to persuade the loanee to sign a “pre agreement” to make a permanent move there, effectively tapping him up.

Obviously Chelsea didn’t want that to happen to a player whose value they expect to rise, so they’ve brought their asset back. His move to Strasbourg then means that Mamadou Sarr, a Chelsea player on loan back to his old club, can now be brought to Stamford Bridge. We expect both moves to be done pretty soon.

As for relations with Dortmund – after a lot of successful business back and forth in recent years, this is certainly a blow to the clubs’ relations if its true. They won’t be trusted with a loanee anytime soon.

In other news…

Another important goal for Enzo Fernandez last night saw him add another G/A to his impressive total for 2026 already. He’s on his way to beating last year’s already impressive numbers.

Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior appeared to pick the wrong team for the second game in a row – but once again he turned it around in the second half with some good subs. He pleased with fans not to blame the 3 players he hauled off at half time.
