Last weekend saw Manchester City enter the Manchester derby without a host of defenders. Manuel Akanji and Nathan Ake missed City’s defeat due to injury. Rico Lewis was suspended for the match and John Stones returned to the City squad on the bench. He was an unused substitute at the Etihad last Sunday. Up next for the world champions is a clash with Aston Villa at Villa Park on Saturday. Heading into the game, there has been good news on the injury front for Pep Guardiola’s side.

In images shared on Manchester City’s official X account, Manuel Akanji and John Stones have both been pictured training. The pair have both been out with injury and it has cost Pep Guardiola’s side. But now it appears that the duo should be available for this weekend’s trip to Villa Park. That is a massive boost for Manchester City as they look to get back to winning ways against Unai Emery’s side.

Rico Lewis was also pictured training ahead of Saturday’s match. The young defender missed last Sunday’s derby after being sent off during City’s 2-all draw with Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. His return will also help replenish City’s defensive stocks for what promises to be a tough game against Aston Villa.

Finally it appears that there is relief in sight for Manchester City. The return of John Stones and Manuel Akanji is a huge boost for Pep Guardiola’s side. This news coupled with the return of Rico Lewis means that Pep Guardiola will have a host of defenders to choose from for Saturday’s match.
