It’s been a special 2025/26 so far for City, and there’ve been some dramatic late victories which have made that possible.
In the Barclays Women’s Super League, City have scored more goals (eight) in the final five minutes of matches than any other team.
In fact, Andrée Jeglertz’s champions’ four game-winning goals from the 86th onwards are also the joint-highest of any side in a single top-flight campaign, with one match still to play this term.
This trend of battling until the final whistle was again on show during the Blues’ thrilling FA Cup semi-final comeback victory over Chelsea, where we came from two goals down to win 3-2 at Stamford Bridge.

After Erin Cuthbert and Sam Kerr had netted either side of half-time for the hosts, Sonia Bompastor’s team looked set to face Brighton in the FA Cup final.
That was until substitute Mary Fowler fired a goal back with five minutes remaining before Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw produced a piece of individual magic to draw City level when she chested and struck past Hannah Hampton on the turn.
Extra-time followed in the capital and the Jamaican met a Yui Hasegawa cross in the 103rd minute to direct our third into the net and send the Blues to Wembley.
It was yet another example of this City team’s incredible knack for a late twist.

Across all competitions, no team in England has scored more goals in the final 10 minutes than City’s 15 – excluding extra-time.
What’s more, our incredible tally of 12 in the final five minutes of matches is also higher than any other side.
Of those 15 goals from the 81st minute, Shaw has scored seven, with two coming in our 6-1 win over Aston Villa in December when she became the first women’s player in the Club’s history to reach, and surpass, 100 goals.
As well as that equaliser against Chelsea, another of her euphoric late strikes came against London City Lionesses in January, where she slammed home an 86th minute winner to decide a keenly fought clash.
Following a fantastic WSL campaign, City’s status as WSL champions was confirmed with one match to play after Arsenal’s draw with Brighton.
That in itself was only made possible by another stoppage time winner three days prior, when Rebecca Knaak’s diving header in the 91st minute against Liverpool moved the Blues within touching distance of the title.
Heading into our final league assignment of the campaign – a trip to West Ham – we currently have 52 points, and of those, six have been collected from losing positions.
Not only does this show how little Jeglertz’s team fall behind, but also showcases that when we do, we have the ability to turn results around.
Those two victories from losing positions came in a 2-1 win over Brighton where Hasegawa netted the winner at the Joie Stadium with just over 15 minutes remaining.
And her Japan international colleague Aoba Fujino fired home at Anfield in the 86th minute as City came from behind to beat Liverpool 2-1 in October.
Now, with Jeglertz’s side in the 2026 FA Cup final, we’ll be aiming to win the Double the first time across our illustrious history and become only the third team to do so since the inception of the WSL.
In a season full of highlights and fighting until of the end, there’s still room for more special chapters to be written.
