Fla v Internacional: both seek first league points

Flamengo host Internacional in the Brasileirão at the Maracanã on Wednesday, with both aiming to respond to opening defeats and get their first points on the board.

Flamengo dominated last season's head-to-head, winning home and away in the Libertadores round of 16 and taking a 3-1 league victory in Porto Alegre. Internacional, however, arrive looking to reset after their own league loss.

Fla have dropped their last two matches, losing at São Paulo in the league and to Corinthians in the Supercopa do Brasil. Inter, meanwhile, have three wins in four in the Gaúcho, including hitting four against Grêmio, but were edged by Athletico Paranaense in their league opener.

Mengão are without Danilo, Saúl Níguez and Nicolás de la Cruz through injury, while Jorginho is suspended. Colorado list Thiago Maia, Richard and Alan Jesus Rodriguez Guaglianoni as injured.

At the Maracanã, Fla may look to set the tempo, but Inter's recent state league scoring shows they can threaten if given space. Defensive focus could be decisive, with both sides conceding on matchday one.

Both teams sit on zero points, with Fla 15th and Inter 16th. A win would take either to three points and could lift them up the early standings, while another setback may keep them hovering near the bottom places.
