River Plate are in negotiations to sign Thiago Almada from Atlético de Madrid, with Flamengo and Palmeiras tracking developments.
According to RTI Esportes, both Brazilian clubs have assessed Almada’s situation in recent months and view any opening as a market opportunity.
The Buenos Aires club initially proposed a loan with an option to buy, but Atlético rejected that approach.
Atlético are understood to want 19 million euros, R$ 111.8 million at the current rate, for part of the player’s economic rights, and intend to retain 50%.
Almada previously played for Botafogo, winning the Campeonato Brasileiro and the Copa Libertadores, before moving to Lyon and later Atlético de Madrid.
Flamengo are monitoring the market as they look to strengthen for the remainder of the season. Jorge Carrascal could be sold, which would open a midfield slot.
