Flamengo and West Ham are moving closer to agreeing a deal for Paquetá, with the timing of his release the key hurdle. According to Globo.com, the English club has told Flamengo it will let the midfielder leave if the figure is closer to what the Rio side can and wants to pay.

Talks centre on €35 million fixed plus €5 million in bonuses, about R$217 million plus R$31 million. Paquetá is 28.

The final point to settle is when he would depart England. Flamengo and the player want immediate release, while West Ham are asking for a loan back until the end of the Premier League season.

West Ham are in the relegation zone, seven points behind Nottingham Forest, the first team outside the bottom three.

This phase is viewed as complicated, yet Flamengo remain optimistic that an agreement could be reached soon. A meeting on Friday may help unlock the situation.

Paquetá has also made clear to the English club that he wants to bolster Flamengo as soon as possible.

The midfielder came through Flamengo’s academy, debuted for the first team in 2016 and became a regular in 2017. He joined Milan in January 2019, then Lyon, before moving to West Ham in 2022.
