Flamengo have extended left-back Alex Sandro’s contract until the end of 2027, with the deal agreed before his World Cup involvement.
According to Globo.com, the Brazilian remains first choice and the club cited his technical quality and tactical value in their decision. Football director José Boto also underlined his influence, saying he helps keep the group united in difficult periods.
Since 2024 he has played 78 matches and collected eight trophies, among them two Campeonato Carioca titles, a Copa do Brasil, a Supercopa Rei, a Conmebol Libertadores, a Campeonato Brasileiro, a FIFA Dérbi das Américas and a FIFA Copa Challenger.
He joined the Rio club in August 2024. At one stage he was eligible to sign a pre-contract elsewhere, but that option was not pursued.
Alex Sandro said the past two years felt special and fast paced at Flamengo, adding that his family have adapted well to Rio. He expressed happiness at staying and the chance to keep competing for silverware.
Flamengo travel to face Chapecoense on Tuesday at 21:30, Brasília time, in the 19th round of the Campeonato Brasileiro.
