A Federal District court last week temporarily suspended Banco BRB’s sponsorship payments to Flamengo, and the club says it has already missed R$ 6.25 million. According to Coluna Do Fla, the halt relates to sums tied to the existing agreement between the parties.
In court filings, Flamengo states the unpaid amount refers to a residual due under a contract that has already ended. The club argues the injunction has an immediate and concrete financial impact, removing significant revenue and putting stress on cash flow.
Flamengo has submitted material exceeding 50 pages seeking the immediate end of the process that pauses BRB transfers. It contends the freeze arose from press clippings, political speculation and a lack of concrete evidence of illegality.
A public action challenges the sponsorship, valued at R$ 42 million. The case argues the bank is in a serious financial crisis, is suspected of involvement in the Banco Master fraud, and that supporting Flamengo could harm public assets.
Flamengo rejects the case, saying there is no demonstration of any specific unlawful act or proof of damage to public funds. It adds that political noise, journalistic curiosity and speculation about personal motives do not amount to evidence of contractual illegality.
