Flamengo have reached a record eighth consecutive Campeonato Carioca final and could clinch a seventh tricampeonato.

According to Globo.com, the Rio club recovered from a poor start with their under-20 side, having come close to the relegation quadrangular. They then routed Madureira 11-0 on aggregate in the semi-final.

Across the previous seven finals, Flamengo won five. They beat Vasco in 2019, Fluminense in 2020 and 2021, Nova Iguaçu in 2024, and Fluminense again last year. Their defeats were to Fluminense in 2022 and 2023.

Fluminense, who eliminated Vasco in the semi-final, will contest the title again. Six of the past seven Carioca finals have been Fla-Flu.

Flamengo20 9s earlier three-in-a-row runs came in 1942-44, 1953-55, 1978 and 1979 plus the special extra 1979 edition, 1999-2001, 2007-2009, and 2019-2021.

Now defending champions in back-to-back seasons, they could make it three again if they overcome Fluminense in the final.

Fluminense have four tricampeonatos, in 1906-08 with 1907 shared with Botafogo, 1917-19, 1936-38, and 1983-85. Botafogo and Vasco have one each, in 1932-34 and 1992-94 respectively.

Flamengo could also become the first club to reach 40 Carioca titles. Fluminense have 33, Vasco 24, and Botafogo 21.
