Flamengo breathed easier in the Carioca after clinching the final Group B place in the quarter-finals, and are eyeing another three-peat with a tailored February plan.
According to Coluna Do Fla, head coach Filipe Luís and the board see the Carioca as a pre-season tournament, so in February the club will prioritise the Brasileirão and the Recopa Sul-Americana when managing players' fitness.
Without abandoning the state competition, Flamengo intend to rest players who are heavily fatigued. The quarter-final pairs them with Botafogo.
If beaten by Botafogo, Flamengo would move into the Taça Rio alongside the other three teams eliminated in the quarter-finals. A win would send them into the state semi-finals.
The clássico with Botafogo is scheduled for Sunday 15/02 at Estádio Nilton Santos, with kick-off still to be set by FERJ.
Before that, focus returns to the Brasileirão, with Vitória v Flamengo on Tuesday 10/02 in the third round, due to start at 21:30 Brasília time.
February continues with Lanús v Flamengo on 19/02 in the first leg of the Recopa, the first leg of either the Carioca semi-final or the Taça Rio on 22/02, then Flamengo v Lanús on 26/02 in the return.
The Vitória match will be shown live on Premiere pay-per-view and on SporTV.
