Flamengo have taken their dispute with Almería to FIFA over unpaid sums from Lázaro’s 2022 sale, with the debt now exceeding €1.5 million, about R$ 10 million.

According to Coluna Do Fla, Almería were responsible for Spanish tax liabilities and the transfer instalments, while Flamengo covered taxes due in Brazil.

Spain’s tax authority demanded payment, but Almería did not settle the bill, so Flamengo paid to avoid sanctions. The club then turned to FIFA, which ruled in their favour.

Flamengo will now seek a resolution at the Court of Arbitration for Sport, CAS, to recoup around R$ 10 million. The arrears have been outstanding for close to 600 days.

In the 2022 deal, Flamengo received €7 million, roughly R$ 36 million at the time, and retained 30% of any profit on a future sale. This year Almería sold Lázaro to Al-Najma (SAU) for €5 million.

A Flamengo academy graduate, Lázaro moved into the senior squad in 2020 and made 62 appearances, scoring eight goals and providing eight assists.
