According to Coluna Do Fla, Flamengo are preparing a €30m, roughly R$ 175.2m, offer to sign Thiago Almada from Atlético Madrid in the next transfer window, with River Plate also pursuing the midfielder.
The proposal is said to cover 100% of his economic rights. Separately, there is an agreement in place between River Plate and Atlético Madrid worth €20m, about R$ 117m, for 50% of Almada’s rights.
That deal has run into bureaucratic hurdles, with River attempting to pay in instalments and a US bank’s requirements proving an obstacle. Flamengo could pay upfront or in fewer instalments, which would reduce regulatory risk for Atlético.
Almada’s priority is to remain in European football. If no offer arrives, he is open to returning to South America and joining Flamengo.
Atlético Madrid signed Almada in July 2025, but he struggled to secure a regular place. He made 40 appearances last season, 18 as a starter, scoring four goals and providing two assists.
He is currently with Lionel Scaloni’s Argentina for the 2026 World Cup final. Argentina face Spain on Sunday 19 at 16:00 Brasília time at MetLife Stadium in New York.
