Sunderland are being linked with a midfield reshuffle, featuring an enquiry for Celtic’s Arne Engels and a possible permanent departure. TuttoMercatoWeb claims Sunderland and Nottingham Forest have already asked about the 22-year-old’s availability.
Sky Sports suggested earlier this week that Sunderland are among the clubs monitoring the Belgian in Glasgow, with Forest and Fulham also interested.
TuttoMercatoWeb adds that Napoli have entered the race as they risk losing Cameroonian international André-Frank Zambo Anguissa in the coming weeks, and that a bid above £21.6 million could persuade Celtic to sell.
Middlesbrough are meanwhile weighing a permanent move for Sunderland loanee Alan Browne, The Northern Echo reports, and are expected to add at least two midfielders this summer. The Irishman made 42 appearances last season as Boro lost the Championship play-off final to Hull City.
Browne is understood to remain under consideration after a steady spell at the Riverside.
