Alarm bells have started ringing after Real Madrid released a statement announcing that president Florentino Perez will speak to the press this afternoon in an emergency press conference.
The media address will take place after an emergency board meeting taking place at the club facilities.
“Real Madrid C. F. announces that this afternoon, at 18:00, our president, Florentino Perez, will appear in the press room at Real Madrid City following the meeting of the Board of Directors and will answer questions from the media in a press conference.”
It is a highly unusual appearance from the Merengues’ president, with no indication yet as to what subjects he plans to address.
Perez rarely speaks directly to the media, and the urgency surrounding the announcement has inevitably triggered all kinds of rumours.
After all, Real Madrid have endured a very disappointing season, which will end without a single trophy, which has forced the club into a deep reflection about the future of the team.
However, according to Jose Manuel Moreno, Perez has no intention of stepping down as the president of Real Madrid and the press conference has nothing to do with his position.
This comes after some reports in Spain suggested that the 79-year-old club chief had confided to someone in his close circles that ‘he was very tired’.
As per the aforementioned update, Perez has made it clear that he is not thinking about resigning as club president even though he thinks that there are some members who would want that.
With the press conference set to take place in less than an hour, it will certainly be interesting what the Real Madrid chief has to say.
After all, as mentioned earlier, he rarely addresses the media directly in press-conference settings.
