Real Madrid are gearing up for their toughest challenge so far this season as they take on cross-town rivals Atletico Madrid today at the Metropolitano.
With six wins in six league matches, Xabi Alonso’s men have been performing exceptionally well and even the Real Madrid board is mightily impressed with the way the new coach has handled things.
However, beating Atletico Madrid will be imperative if Alonso wants to prove his mettle. In fact, to face an opposition like Atleti, Real Madrid players would require more than just tactical organisation.
Keeping that in mind, Real Madrid top boss Florentino Perez had visited the Real Madrid dressing room ahead of the game.
According to Defensa Central, the Real Madrid president wanted to be closer to the players before such a big game, as he delivered a rallying message.
“You know that many people around the world watch these types of matches; there are so many fans glued to their televisions today. We have to win for them too, because they’re suffering with us,” Perez told the players.

The Real Madrid president is very pleased with the team’s performance and is confident of winning today’s Madrid derby. However, he believes it will be a more difficult match than it looks.
On the flip side, the team has performed exceptionally well. Perez stressed it is time to make a statement and achieve an eighth consecutive victory, no matter how difficult it may be.
Following Perez’s message to the squad, it will be interesting to see how Real Madrid respond against an Atleti side, who have endured a difficult start to the season.
Nevertheless, the coach Diego Simeone, heading into this game, admired Xabi Alonso and explained why his team has been winning matches this season. But the Argentine, for his part, will be keen on becoming the first coach to beat Alonso’s Real Madrid this season.
