Fikayo Tomori has admitted that AC Milan want to be higher in the table than what they are, but they will try to finish the season in the best way possible.

Milan built on the midweek derby win over Inter at the Stadio Pier Luigi Penzo on Sunday in the early kick-off, winning 2-0 thanks to goals from Christian Pulisic and Santiago Gimenez, who scored early and late in the game.

Getting a Champions League or even a Europa League spot in Serie A remains borderline impossible because of previous dropped points, though it is important to build momentum ahead of the Coppa Italia final.

Above all, one positive aspect was that Milan  kept a third clean sheet in four games, showing that the switch to a three-man defence does appear to have improved the solidity at the back.

Tomori spoke in the post-match press conference to give his analysis after the victory against Venezia, and his comments were relayed by MilanNews.

Why have you found the right spirit only now?

“Obviously we would like to be higher up in the standings, but when you play well you always have to be happy. We won the derby and today and we have to do our best in these remaining matches.”

More Stories / The Match

In these ups and downs of the season, you are the perfect image, since sometimes you play, other times you don’t for weeks. How do you experience this?

“Football is like that, sometimes you are at the top, other times things don’t go the way you want. I am always available. If I play the next game, good, if not, it’s fine anyway.”

How do you prepare for the Coppa Italia final and the games before?

“We prepare every game to the maximum, in the same way, we have two games before the final. We can still grow and continue on this path. We are living a good moment and we must continue to work to finish the season in the best way.”
