Manchester United have major issues in midfield that need solving.
Casemiro, despite his resurgence, cannot complete 90 minutes in the Premier League, and the Brazilian looks to be on his way out with MLS clubs chasing his signature.
Given Manuel Ugarte’s struggles since signing, and Ruben Amorim’s criticism, Kobbie Mainoo must have hoped for more opportunities in the middle of the park.
However, the head coach did not think so, as evidenced from the fact that the Carrington graduate is yet to start a English top-flight game this season.
Bruno Fernandes’ injury finally seemed to free up space, but the Englishman also sustained a knock at the worst possible time.
There were growing murmurs of a switch to Napoli, but his injury coupled with that of the skipper, means INEOS are unlikely to relent in January.
Rather surprisingly, the defending Serie A champions seem to have another United midfielder in their crosshairs ahead of the winter window.
Despite his boss’ adverse remarks, Manuel Ugarte did steal the show in the club’s recent win over Newcastle.
Galatasaray have been long-term admirers, and even saw their loan to buy proposal get rejected by the 20-time English league champions.
And now, as relayed by Fotomac, Napoli along with Olympique Lyonnais have joined the race for the Uruguay international.
Gala currently employ Fernando Muslera and Lucas Torreira, two of the 24-year-old’s compatriots, and they have got in touch with the defensive midfielder over a move to Istanbul.
“Galatasaray is preparing a loan-focused offer for Ugarte, whose market value is estimated at around 30 million euros.
“While the English club is reportedly expecting a transfer fee exceeding 30 million euros, Galatasaray is said to be considering a 25 million euro package with a purchase option.
“Lyon and Napoli are also interested in Ugarte. Therefore, the increased contact between Galatasaray and Ugarte is noteworthy.
“Galatasaray’s legendary goalkeeper Fernando Muslera and key midfielder Lucas Torreira intervened to persuade their national team teammate Ugarte to come to Istanbul.”
As previously relayed by The Peoples Person, the Red Devils are looking to recoup at least €30 million for their No.25’s sale. They had bought him from Paris Saint-Germain for €50 million.
