A former member of the boardroom setup at La Liga giants Atlético Madrid is in the closing stages of negotiations to link up with Premier League outfit Arsenal.
That’s according to journalist Fabrizio Romano, who points towards Andrea Berta as the individual in question.
Berta, for his part, brought an end to a lengthy spell with the aforementioned Atlético this past January.
Following 12 years in the boardroom in Spain’s capital, culminating in his appointment as sporting director in 2017, the Italian opted for a new challenge following the turn of the year.
Berta was afforded widespread credit for Atléti’s success over the last decade and beyond, having proven instrumental in bringing in the likes of Antoine Griezmann, Rodri and Jan Oblak.
And now, such excellence behind the scenes looks set to be on display at another of Europe’s leading clubs.
As per the aforementioned Fabrizio Romano:
‘Understand Andrea Berta is now the top candidate to become new Arsenal director in order to replace Edu. Talks at advanced stage, not done/sealed yet.’
