Josep Martinez has emerged as one of the few positives for Inter following the bitter Supercoppa defeat in Saudi Arabia, with Italian media suggesting his performances have reopened the debate over rotation in goal.
The Spaniard impressed against Bologna with several important saves during the match and in the penalty shootout.
Indeed, building on encouraging signs already shown in the Coppa Italia tie against Venezia.
For Cristian Chivu, those displays offer reassurance at a time when reliability between the posts has become increasingly important.

As Tuttosport notes, Martinez’s progress is even more significant given the personal difficulties he has faced in recent months.
The goalkeeper was involved in a tragic road accident less than 2 months ago in which 81-year-old Paolo Saibene lost his life.
The newspaper underlines that investigators appear to be excluding responsibility on Martinez’s part.
However, they add that such circumstances inevitably weigh heavily on a player’s state of mind.
“It’s difficult to claim that one good performance, in a particular atmosphere like the half-empty stadium in Riyadh, is enough to erase from the mind an investigation for road manslaughter,” Tuttosport writes.
However, the paper also stresses Martinez’s determination to return to normality as quickly as possible.
From a sporting perspective, the signs are encouraging.
Martinez has responded when called upon.
Indeed, Tuttosport suggests he now needs just one more convincing appearance, perhaps in Serie A.
Therefore providing the final proof that a genuine alternation with Yann Sommer is back on the table.
