One former Chelsea number 9 says that if the club sign this one player this summer then they can win the Premier League.

There’s been the usual debates starting up this week on whether Chelsea will challenge for the Premier League next season or not, and it seems like not many people are going to be writing them off for it this season.

Incidentally, I wrote a similar article yesterday saying how a pundit says that if Chelsea signed Marc Guehi this window then they would win the Premier League. I wasn’t sure about that claim, and I’m certainly not sure about this claim either.

What Chelsea need is an upgrade on their current goalkeepers in my opinion, and there was one goalkeeper name linked with the club earlier this week that Fabrizio Romano shut down so it’s unlikely to happen now anyway.

Gianluigi Donnarumma is leaving PSG this summer and Chelsea were touted as a possible destination. I like him, but I don’t think his data is great and also, he is on big wages so I could never see him coming to Chelsea anyway.

Former Chelsea midfielder Steve Sidwell, who oddly wore the number 9 shirt when he was here, is keen for Chelsea to sign the PSG goalkeeper this window.

He says:

“If Chelsea get him [Donnarumma], they’ve got the biggest chance of winning that Premier League title.”

I don’t agree, Steve

I agree that signing a new goalkeeper upgrade would give us the best chance of challenging for titles next season, but perhaps not Donnarumma.

I also think Chelsea will be up there challenging anyway, but if they upgraded their current goalkeeper then they will be giving themselves an even better chance for sure.
