Kylian Mbappe is going through his best moment on the pitch since joining Real Madrid last summer, but off-field, he has had some concerns. He is currently in the middle of a legal battle with former club Paris Saint-Germain over unpaid wages and bonuses, and there are also problems with SM Caen, the side that he owns as of last September.

Caen are currently on a dreadful run of form, having lost their last 10 matches in all competitions – nine of those in the league. As such, they are rock bottom of Ligue 2, 11 points adrift of safety, and that resulted in their manager Bruno Baltazar being sacked by Mbappe earlier this week.

Things have not gone to plan for Caen since Mbappe took over, and now the Real Madrid superstar has attracted criticism from former footballer Jerome Rothen, as per RMC Sport (via Sport).

“The situation in Caen is critical. The club is going through serious difficulties at all levels. Mbappe’s management has been problematic since he took charge of Caen. This club is dying, and it will die. It will be in the National League, and good luck if it gets back on his feet.”

Rothen has also criticised Mbappe for a supposed lack of interest in Caen.

“He had the opportunity to come and explain to the players, the employees or the mayor the vision he has of things at the Stade Malherbe, but he didn’t want to. When I had days off, I could have gone to Caen instead of Sweden. Now it’s too late.”

There is no doubt that Mbappe’s first priority is Real Madrid, and he is currently reaping the rewards of his commitment to the club after a tough start to life earlier in the season. He will also be keen to bring success to Caen, but so far, it is going in the opposite direction.
