Former footballer Patrick Lacey, 32, is among four men charged with attempted murder after a November shooting in Huyton, Merseyside.

According to the BBC, Lacey, of Manor Avenue, Crosby, was charged after a man in his 20s was left in a critical condition on Radway Road.

John Jones, 35, of Stamfordham Drive, Allerton, John Hughes, 31, of no fixed abode, and Bernard Flynn, 61, of Knowsley Road, Bootle, have also been charged. All four are due to appear at Liverpool, Knowsley, Sefton and St Helens Adult Remand Court this afternoon, Friday 20 February.

The men also face counts of conspiracy to murder, possession of a shotgun and ammunition with intent to endanger life, section 18 grievous bodily harm, and conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm.

The charges relate to a shooting at about 10.20pm on Friday 28 November in which a man sustained a serious leg injury.

Warrants were executed across Knowsley, Sefton and Liverpool on Thursday 19 February, and four people were arrested then charged. The investigation remains ongoing and officers are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

Lacey began at Tranmere Rovers before time in the academies at Manchester United and Liverpool. He later played midfield for Accrington Stanley and Flint Town United, and has also boxed.
