Former Inter defender Andrea Ranocchia has revealed that the image captured of Marcus Thuram laughing with his brother Khephren after Juventus took the lead in Saturday’s Derby d’Italia is a simple misunderstanding.

Speaking on Sport Mediaset’s Pressing programme, with quotes via Tuttosport, Ranocchia said “I won’t reveal my source but I know that Thuram simply told his brother ‘to tell the truth, you committed a foul’, and the brothers burst into laughter. That’s all there is to it.”

A simple incident but one which infuriated Inter fans in the immediate aftermath of the match. Head coach Cristian Chivu also told the press to “stop making controversy” after they asked him about the photograph after the game.

It was a disappointing end to the game for the Nerazzurri, who led heading into the final ten minutes of the game.

Marcus Thuram had only just given Inter the lead when six minutes later his brother Khephren equalised through a header.

In stoppage time, Montenegrin youngster Vasilije Adzic scored a wonderful effort from long-range to give Igor Tudor’s side all three points and leaving Inter to return home to Lombardy with nothing, despite a spirited performance from Chivu’s men.
