Illan Meslier made an impression in his first major Arsenal examination after leaving Leeds United this summer. According to The Sun, he received a 7/10 for his Girona display, with praise for his saves and for tidying up errors around him.

The Frenchman debuted last weekend in a friendly against League One MK Dons, coming on in the 59th minute for Kepa Arrizabalaga. A sterner test followed on Saturday against recently relegated Segunda Division side Girona in Spain at the 49th Costa Brava Trophy.

Kepa started again, with first choice keeper David Raya yet to return after World Cup glory with Spain. Meslier entered in the 61st minute with Arsenal 4-1 up through Kai Havertz, summer signing Christos Tzolis, Max Dowman and Gabriel Jesus.

Arsenal stayed in control and Meslier made two good saves to deny Abel Ruiz. His contribution came as the Gunners continued to dominate.

Meslier departed Leeds after 215 appearances, his contract expiring following a drop behind Karl Darlow and Lucas Perri in the pecking order. He did not feature in the first team last season before sealing a surprise move to the Gunners.
