Divock Origi, the former Liverpool and Milan forward, has retired from football at 31 to pursue interests including fashion, entrepreneurism and philanthropy. The player said in a post that his purpose in the game is fulfilled and that he will step into a new calling.

He has been without a club since agreeing to terminate his Milan contract in December. Across spells with Lille, Liverpool, Wolfsburg, Milan and Nottingham Forest he made 358 senior appearances and scored 67 goals.

For Belgium he won 32 caps and scored three goals. His most memorable Liverpool moments included a 96th-minute winner against Everton in December 2018, two goals in the comeback against Barcelona in the 2019 Champions League semi-final, then the second and final strike in the win over Tottenham Hotspur in the final.

He was also part of the squad that won Liverpools first Premier League title in the 2019-20 season. At Anfield he became a cult favourite during that period.

Looking ahead, he intends to study fashion as a craft, deepen his knowledge of the industry and learn from leading designers. He also plans to expand DLF, a football agency he is developing with his partner and co-owner Marvin Willem Ofori, and to act as a bridge for the next generation through entrepreneurial work and philanthropy.
