Enzo Fernandez’s answer to questions about his Chelsea future have sparked debate all week. Most Blues fans are not happy about the way that their star midfielder left the door open for an exit, but on ESPN former Liverpool man Stevie Nicol defended Enzo:
“It wasn’t that bad an answer… nobody’s going to guarantee anything… I thought he batted it away quite well,” Nicol said.
That’s just so naive though. Enzo knew exactly what he was doing – a non answer says as much as an answer in these situations. If he wanted the message to be that he’s staying, he could have just said that.
Enzo’s further comments about the sacking of Enzo Maresca have been taken as a criticism of Liam Rosenior, but Nicol defended him again:
“All he’s saying is that, under Enzo Maresca… they were doing something, they were organised. All of a sudden the legs are taken away in the middle of the season and you start again with a new manager… every manager does something slightly different… people are trying to find something which I don’t think is there.”

It’s all lined up perfectly for Chelsea to gain points on Liverpool and Manchester United with a win today – but does anyone have faith that they will?
Chelsea’s team news for today’s game has a slightly unexpected name at centre back.
Enzo Fernandez is pushing for an exit from Chelsea, and there’s a rising level of conviction he might actually go this summer.
