Manchester City could be set for an emotional reunion with former manager Sven-Goran Eriksson on the final day of the ongoing Premier League season.

Clubs from across Eriksson’s remarkable footballing career and those close to his heart are making moves to welcome him with open arms, after the 75-year-old announced earlier this year that he has “best case a year” to live after being diagnosed with cancer.

The former Swedish manager became the first foreign coach to manage England and led the Three Lions side to the quarter-finals of the 2002 and 2006 World Cup, as well as the 2004 Euros.

Speaking to Swedish Radio P1, Sven-Goran Eriksson explained, “I’m going to resist for as long as I can. I have an illness that’s serious. Best case a year, I have worst case a lot less. It’s impossible to say exactly, so it’s better to not think about it.”

Sven-Goran Eriksson took charge of 45 matches during his time as Manchester City manager, winning 19 and drawing 11 of those contests, but perhaps most importantly at the time, recording a remarkable league double over city-rivals Manchester United.

Now, following on from his stay at the City of Manchester Stadium between 2007 and 2008, it appears as though Manchester City are set to become the latest side to work on plans to bring the legendary coach back to the north-west.

According to the information of Manchester City insider ‘Tolmie’s Hairdoo’ on X, former Etihad Stadium boss Sven-Goran Eriksson could be welcomed back on the final day of the Premier League season.

It is further detailed that the Football Association are also working on plans for a tribute which could see Sven-Goran Eriksson present the FA Cup trophy or meet the two teams at Wembley Stadium for the upcoming FA Cup final between Manchester City and Manchester United.

Eriksson could see himself present for more Manchester City success and history in the coming weeks, as Pep Guardiola and his players seek to become the first club to retain a domestic double and also win four successive Premier League titles.

Should Manchester City win all of their remaining three matches in the Premier League, they will be crowned champions once again, with matches against Fulham and Tottenham away from home, and West Ham at the Etihad Stadium remaining.
