Former Milan and Italy defender Alessandro Costacurta has admitted he is “not a fan” of Juventus forward Dusan Vlahovic, arguing “he cannot be a key player but sometimes I see a strong striker.”

Vlahovic remained at Juventus this summer despite speculation linking the Serbian forward with a move elsewhere, Costacurta’s old club Milan included.

Speaking to Quotidiano Sportivo, via TuttoMercatoWeb, Costacurta said “I can’t figure it out, does he occasionally get lucky?”

Vlahovic has started the season strongly, with two goals from two Serie A matches so far this season, including the match winning goal off the bench against Genoa. “If he continues like this,” Costacurta added, “I’d apologise – but I am not a huge fan.”

Costacurta: ‘Unlike Vlahovic, David, Openda and Zhegrova will impress for Juventus’

Whilst the former Milan defender did not have too many kind words for Vlahovic, he did have compliments for several other Juventus players.

Costacurta focused on the Bianconeri’s summer signings, describing Canadian forward Jonathan David as “an excellent addition”, whilst Lois Openda and Edon Zhegrova “will trouble all defences.”

The Italian concluded by arguing that the Juventus “team is solid but the performance”, he added, “depends precisely on this: all hell broke loose last year once Bremer got injured and that was Motta’s main misfortune.”

Juventus resume their Serie A campaign on Saturday evening when they welcome rivals Inter to the Allianz Stadium in Turin for the first Derby d’Italia of the season. The Bianconeri are currently one of only four teams to win their first two games of the season and sit in joint-top on six points.
