TeamTalk reports that Igor Tudor is expected to leave his interim role at Tottenham by mutual consent, with Adi Hutter and former Newcastle United manager Chris Hughton among options to replace him before the Premier League strugglers visit Sunderland next month.
The report added there had been an internal agreement to act if Spurs lost on Sunday, and that Tudor is prepared to step aside following the death of his father, Mario.
The former Juventus and Croatia defender took charge after Thomas Frank’s departure last month, starting with a 4-1 home defeat to Arsenal. He is winless in five league games, his only point a 1-1 draw at Liverpool.
His sole victory came with a 3-2 home win over Atletico Madrid in the Champions League round of 16 second leg, but Spurs went out after a 5-2 first-leg loss. They then returned to league action with a 3-0 home defeat that left them one point and one place above the relegation zone.
Hutter and Hughton are viewed as viable interim options, which could mean an emotional return for Hughton to a club he represented over 300 times and served for 14 years in various roles. He left in February 2008 for Newcastle, later becoming permanent boss, and remains the last to secure a home Tyne-Wear derby win, in October 2010.
If a change is made, the new interim’s first game would be at Sunderland on Sunday 12 April, with the Black Cats aiming to intensify Spurs’ relegation worries and boost their own European push.
