Tottenham Hotspur secured Xavi Simons during the summer transfer window, edging out Chelsea for the Netherlands international. The move also gives PSG a boost, as they will earn from a sell-on clause tied to their previous agreement with RB Leipzig.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported that Tottenham agreed to pay RB Leipzig €60 million for Simons.
Chelsea had been monitoring Simons throughout the summer but never made a formal offer, prioritizing moves to offload players like Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson first. That delay opened the door for Tottenham, who finalized the signing after earlier pursuits of Morgan Gibbs-White and Eberechi Eze fell through.

Metro reports that Simons’ agent says the 22-year-old Tottenham midfielder has “no regrets” after his summer transfer to Chelsea fell through.
The agent also clarified why a return to his former Ligue 1 club wasn’t an option. Instead, Simons went on loan to RB Leipzig, who later purchased him from PSG before selling him on to Tottenham.
“PSG weren’t in this current phase of developing young players,” Ali Barat, Simons’ agent, told Le Parisien. “In football, there’s no room for regrets. You always have to look ahead,” he said, adding that his player shared the same view.”
