Former Real Madrid sporting director Pedja Mijatovic has shared his thoughts on why Luka Modric has decided to leave Real Madrid and join AC Milan once the FIFA Club World Cup comes to an end.
The Croatian midfielder, who has been a key part of Real Madrid’s success for more than a decade, is set to sign with the Italian giants as soon as his commitments at the Club World Cup are complete.
Speaking on El Larguero (h/t Mundo Deportivo), Mijatovic explained that Modric’s move to Milan is more than just a professional decision, as it is also a personal one.
“It seems like the decision has been made, but you know how football is… I think he’s very close to joining Milan. Of all the Italian teams, he has always been attracted to Milan,” Mijatovic said.
“Perhaps it’s because his idol, Zvonimir Boban, played there in a Milan team that won the Champions League and had so many great players.”
Mijatovic also pointed out that Modric has made a wise choice for the final chapter of his career.

He expects the veteran midfielder to sign a one-year deal, compete in the upcoming World Cup, and then possibly retire.
“Although Luka could surprise us. He could say this is his last season, celebrate another birthday, and keep going.
“The other day we saw him come on and give everything; he’s a machine,” he added.
While Real Madrid or Modric himself have not made an official announcement, AC Milan’s Sporting Director, Igli Tare, confirmed that the deal is practically done.
Speaking recently, Tare said, “Luka Modric? I spoke to him personally, and I saw a player with a great desire to compete. His arrival is essential for a group that needs players like him.”
This move will bring an end to Modric’s incredible spell at Real Madrid, where he has won multiple Champions League and La Liga titles.
Joining AC Milan will give him a fresh challenge and allow him to continue playing at a high level in one of Europe’s top leagues.
