Former Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Rafa Mir has been jailed for eight-and-a-half years in Spain for sexually assaulting two women.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, a lower court in the Valencia region found Mir and another player guilty of assaulting the women at Mir’s home in Valencia in 2024, when he was playing in the city.

The court gave Mir seven years for sexual assault and a further 18 months for causing physical harm. He denied wrongdoing, saying the women consented.

The second player, named in court papers as Pablo J G, a lower-division footballer in Spain, received a two-and-a-half year sentence for sexual assault and causing physical harm.

The court said a victim’s testimony was consistent and credible, supported by witnesses and forensic reports. One victim was awarded compensation of €64,000. The ruling is not yet final and can be appealed.

Mir, 28, played for Elche in La Liga last season on loan from Sevilla, and his contract with Elche is set to expire at the end of this month. He signed for Wolves in 2018 and remained until 2021, making four appearances without scoring, before leaving for Sevilla after three separate loans.
