Fortaleza have acted swiftly to reinforce their squad during a turbulent stretch, confirming the signing of goalkeeper Vinícius Silvestre from Portimonense, according to NE45, Diário do Nordeste, and Globo. The move comes as the club grapples with an injury crisis in the goalkeeping department and managerial uncertainty following Juan Pablo Vojvoda’s exit.

Silvestre, 31, arrives as emergency cover with forthright prospects of taking the number one shirt. Both João Ricardo and Brenno are set to be sidelined for up to six weeks after recent surgeries, leaving Fortaleza reliant on untested options. The new signing’s registration has already appeared in the CBF’s official bulletin, clearing him to feature as soon as the league fixture against Bahia at Arena Castelão.

Silvestre is a product of the Palmeiras academy and spent most of his career at the São Paulo club, though his first-team appearances were limited. He also played for Ponte Preta and CRB during loan spells, before moving to Portugal, where he made 51 appearances for Portimonense across two campaigns. His experience in Brazil’s top flight, coupled with regular game time in Europe, could provide needed stability during a crucial period for Fortaleza.

The club’s transfer activity is not limited to its goalkeeping ranks. Left-back Weverson Costa is also set to join from Arouca, as the club looks to solve gaps caused by further injuries and a thin squad, according to Diário do Nordeste and Globo. The timing is significant, as interim coach Léo Porto—stepping in since Vojvoda’s departure—has had to manage with limited resources while the club continues its search for a new permanent manager.

Events are moving quickly off the pitch, too, with Portuguese manager Renato Paiva poised to take charge. All signings and appointments are geared towards rapid stabilisation, as the team seeks to halt a slide in form and climb out of the relegation zone in Série A.

Silvestre, who has already bid farewell to his previous club, is expected to sign with Fortaleza until 2026. His arrival underpins the club’s prompt response to its current challenges, highlighting a desire to re-establish consistency and resilience as they head into the heart of their domestic campaign.
