Mary Fowler scored Australia’s second goal in their 4-0 win over Iran in the Asian Cup on Thursday morning, confirming their place in the quarter-finals of the competition.
The triumph sees the Matildas maintain their 100% win record in Group A following their opening 1-0 victory over the Philippines.
Australia took control of the game from kick-off, and would go on to register 78% possession with 10 shots on target and denied Iran a single effort on goal.
It took Australia just eight minutes to take the lead through Amy Sayer, he cross turned shot flying over Iran goalkeeper Maryam Yektaei.
City forward Fowler doubled her nation’s lead just before the half hour, tapping home a rebound from close range.
Former Blue Alanna Kennedy bagged a brace, with a goal either side of half-time, to push Australia firmly in the driving seat before holding out for an equally rewarding clean sheet.
Joint on six points with South Korea, who sit in first with a goal difference of six compared to Australia’s five, it’s all to play for in the final group game to see who will top Group A.
Australia take on South Korea on Sunday 8 March, with kick-off slated for 09:00 (UK).
We’re back in action at the Joie Stadium on Saturday 21 March, when we welcome Tottenham Hotspur for a 12:00 (UK) kick-off.
City sit top of the WSL table with just six matches remaining, boasting a 100% record on home soil, but that’ll be put to the test against the visitors.
Indeed, Spurs still hold faint hopes of European qualification and have lost just once on the road in 2026, even winning their last away fixture in the WSL 7-3 at Aston Villa.
It all points towards another thrilling clash at the Joie Stadium. Seated tickets available from just £15 for adults and £6 for Under-16s, with standing tickets on sale for just £13 for adults or £5 for Under-16s.
Don’t miss out as City’s push for the WSL title continues!
