France drawn in toughest 2026 World Cup group by FIFA ranking

France are in the toughest first-round group at the 2026 World Cup by FIFA ranking averages. According to L'Équipe, they share Group I with Norway, Senegal and Iraq.
France moved top of the FIFA ranking on Tuesday night after Spain’s 0-0 draw with Egypt.
Using the current positions, France first, Senegal 14th, Norway 31st and Iraq 57th, Group I has an average of 25.7, the lowest of the opening phase.
Group D, Australia, Panama, United States and Türkiye, follows with 26.3. Group F, Netherlands, Japan, Sweden and Tunisia, comes next on 26.8.
The most favourable on this metric is Group B, Canada, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Qatar and Switzerland, on 42.3.
