France legend not impressed with Real Madrid megastar – “Would never give him the captain’s armband” | OneFootball

Patrice Evra, the former Manchester United and France football star, recently shared his thoughts on Kylian Mbappe’s current standing in the football world, and he believes the French forward is still not on the same level as Karim Benzema.

Mbappe’s much-anticipated transfer to Real Madrid last summer has sparked debates among fans and pundits. While many expected him to hit the ground running, scoring goals consistently, the transition to his new club has been slower than anticipated.

Despite netting seven goals so far this season, three of those have come from the penalty spot, which has led to some mixed reactions.

Additionally, Mbappe’s recent injury has raised concerns about his form and fitness, adding to the pressure already mounting on him at the Bernabeu.

Evra is not impressed

Evra, who is known for his candid opinions, voiced his concerns about the handling of Mbappe. He pointed out that France manager Didier Deschamps seems to be offering the forward some level of protection.

According to Evra, moving from Paris Saint-Germain to Real Madrid is a significant step, and it’s not an easy transition.

“Didier is protecting him, let’s be clear! Mbappe is no longer playing in Paris, he’s playing for Real Madrid,” he was quoted by SPORT.

“If you want to ruin your relationship with Florentino Perez.. I, what I hear about Mbappe.. I want people to give up on him. He’ll do it, but you have to give him time and let him breathe,” he added.

Not close to Benzema

In Evra’s view, Mbappe is often treated like a legend simply because of his World Cup victory with France. However, he argues that as talented as Mbappe is, he is not yet on par with Benzema, who has achieved much more in the game.

“Why do people only talk about Mbappe? It was you who created this legend because he won a World Cup. But for me, Mbappe is still not close to Benzema.”

Evra also criticised the decision to give Mbappe the captain’s armband for the French national team, suggesting that such decisions could diminish the player’s motivation.

“With all due respect to him. I would never have given the armband (of the French national team) to Mbappe. You give everything to the boy, how do you expect him to be motivated afterwards?” he concluded.
