N’Golo Kanté’s (34) contract at Al-Ittihad expires at the end of the season, and he isn’t ruling out a return to France.
Reports in recent months have revealed that the former Chelsea and Leicester City midfielder is open to a return to his recent France. There was even interest in the summer. There were links with AS Monaco, however, much more concrete interest came from recently moneyed and promoted side Paris FC. Ultimately, however, Les Parisiens could not get a deal over the line and so he remained in the Gulf State.
A deal will be easier to conclude next summer, when Kanté will be a free agent. Speaking to Téléfoot, he has not ruled out a return to Ligue 1. “We are focused on the season at Al-Ittihad. We will see what offers come after but what we want is to make the most of the years of football that are ahead of me,” said the midfielder.
He added, “And I hope that that will be a complete year at every level. A return to Ligue 1? You never know? To Paris FC? You never know (laughs).“
Kanté returned to the France national team this November and is in contention to book his place in Didier Deschamps’ FIFA World Cup squad.
Kanté played in Ligue 1 with SM Caen, making 37 first-team appearances for the club in the top-flight in the 2014/15 season.
