Porto beat Torreense 1-0 to claim the Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira, after which Francesco Farioli said there is no debate over Portugal’s most decorated club, a swipe at Benfica.

"It was absolutely important. Winning this trophy was a milestone, with this title we have 88. There is no discussion about the club with the most titles in Portugal," he said in a pitchside interview with Sport TV.

The victory put the André Villas-Boas-led club ahead of Benfica in official honours, 88 to 87. Rui Costa’s side now trail by one.

Porto have long argued they already topped the ranking, as they do not recognise Benfica’s 1980 Supertaça as an official trophy.

After decades of Benfica dominance, Porto closed the gap during Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa’s presidency and now hold the outright lead. Sporting sit third on 57 titles.
