Real Madrid legend Cristiano Ronaldo has on Saturday come in for a less-than-subtle dig on the part of French football icon Franck Ribéry.
This comes after the former turned heads courtesy of a round of comments regarding the next Ballon d’Or.
Speaking during a press conference ahead of Portugal’s showdown with Spain in the finale of the Nations League on Sunday, Ronaldo was drawn on the race for this year’s ‘Golden Ball’.
This comes with Barcelona starlet Lamine Yamal, expected to play a leading role for Spain tomorrow, considered one of the very frontrunners for the prize.
Ronaldo, though, insisted that:
“For me, whoever wins the Ballon d’Or must be a player who won the Champions League. I think this award has lost its value.”
The five-time winner of the award’s comments have since caused quite a stir, particularly amongst those of a Barcelona persuasion.
And as alluded to above, those of a Blaugrana persuasion have this evening been joined in making their disillusionment clear by Franck Ribéry.
Taking to his official Instagram account, ex-winger Ribery wrote:
‘So you NEED to win the Champions League to win the Ballon d’Or?’, accompanied by a series of laughing emojis.
