According to Sunderland Echo, Frank Lampard is considering a summer move for Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson, with around £eight million said to be enough for a permanent deal.

The 24-year-old is on loan at Millwall after limited opportunities at the Stadium of Light this season following the arrival of Robin Roefs, who has established himself as Régis Le Bris’ first-choice goalkeeper.

Coventry are exploring options between the posts as Lampard plans for the possibility of losing current first choice Carl Rushworth. The Brighton loanee has impressed and is expected to return to his parent club at the end of the campaign.

Patterson has emerged as a candidate if Rushworth departs, and Lampard could try to bring him in on loan or on a permanent deal. Millwall may also attempt to keep him if they secure promotion, while Sunderland are expected to assess their options should an offer arrive.

An academy graduate, Patterson made his senior debut in November 2020 in an EFL Trophy tie at Fleetwood Town. He became first choice in the second half of 2021-22 and played a key role in promotion from League One after a 2-0 play-off final win over Wycombe Wanderers.

Game time has been harder to come by this season. After only one EFL Cup appearance in the first half of the campaign, he joined Millwall on loan in February in search of regular minutes.
